A new old generation !
1978 YAMAHA IT175E
Bought in November 2007 as part of a ' job lot ' of IT's.
This was truly a rotting hulk of a bike, and needed major restoration.
Link to restoration feature.
Runs well for a 32 Year old bike !

1978 YAMAHA IT175E
Another IT175E from the ' job lot '.
Intrestingly, ( well to me anyway ! ) this IT175E has frame numbers only two digits away from the restored bike above. Same owner ?
Some work has been done on the frame of this bike and a few missing items sourced.
As yet unrestored and ' resting ' in storage !
A ' rescue package ' of used spares has recently arrived from Australia, hopefully this project will be moving soon !

1978 YAMAHA YZ125E
Bought as an IT175 in the ' job lot ', this bike turned out to be a 1978 Yamaha YZ125E.
I tried selling the rolling chassis on Ebay, but had no interest even when listed at £14.99 starting price !
A quick look in the loft space turned up a set of CR85 front forks, yolks, front wheel and a Honda CR250 rear wheel, and disk and a caliper from a Sachs XTC125 was found to fit perfectly..
As can be seen here : Link the bike also can have a set of wide supermoto style wheels fitted. The idea was to do some tarmac hill climb competitions, a quest that was never realised !
This bike is now ' resting ' until I get some time to ride it.

1980 YAMAHA IT175G
Not a photo of my bike ! For some reason I have no photos of the IT175G that I bought as part of a job lot in November 2007.
This photo taken in 1981, shows the pristine condition but well thrashed IT175G that belonged to Mark Fryer.
My IT175G was just a rolling chassis with plastics and some cycle parts.
I foolishly sold it to Gary Kinsey raise funds for the IT175E restoration. Doh !

1980 YAMAHA IT425G
Having restored an IT175 I thought I would have a go at something bigger.
A really beaten up 1980 IT425 was found and cash was raised by selling some stuff on eBay.
As usual when seen in the flesh it was as bad as a bike could be, and needed a huge amount of work to get it in an acceptable condition.
Link to restoration.
This model IT was probably the most powerful Yamaha enduro made, as the later models such as the IT465 and 490 concentrated on more torque and better suspension.
Work in progress !

1983 YAMAHA IT490K
Bought this for the engine which is being rebuilt, but I may restore the whole bike if I ever get bored !
Also a frame repair was needed, which required some simple engineering.
I like a challenge !
May even sell it if someone offered the right money.

1978 YAMAHA IT175E
Bought this on eBay as a rolling chassis for £25.00.
Found a seat and fitted some CR85 forks, yolks and wheels from the YZ125E project.
The swinging arm has been extended by 19mm and the shock modified internally to give 280mm wheel travel ( 11" ) to match the longer forks.
It currently has a Yamaha DT175MX engine fitted, but I have something special lined up for this one !
A Yamaha RT180 engine is being modified in two stages. Firstly bored to 196cc, then later it will go to a full 219cc when funds allow.

1977 YAMAHA IT175D
Here is a nice almost original IT175D.
I just fitted a new seat cover, some DC Plastics mudguards, a chain, and tidied the bike up generally.
The electrics have been uprated to 12V DC, and the bike starts and runs well.
This one's a keeper !!

1982 YAMAHA IT175J
Not sure what to say about this bike !
Sold a few parts on eBay to raise some cash, and this bike was mine !
It turned out that the forks were bent and creased, and the cylinder, head, carb and exhaust were missing.
Selling some accumulated scrap metal paid for the frame powder coating and some parts.
Waiting for a shipment of parts from Australia so this bike can be completed.

1984 YAMAHA IT490L
Managed to get this bike running recently. All it needed was a new spark plug and plug cap ! That's after I had changed the CDI, source coils and ingnition coil !
Fitted the plastics, wired up the lights and took the bike for a blast. Lost half the nuts and bolts on the run and the smoke hung thick in the air ! No shortage of power on this bike !!! Maybe a 2011 restoration project ? Work in progress. |
1982 YAMAHA IT465J
Renewed the spark plug and this bike started second kick !
Later found that the main jet was missing from the carb !
Runs well, and just needs some cosmetic tidying and minor engineering work on the exhaust.
Work in progress !

1980 YAMAHA IT250G
Not my bike !!
It was bound to happen sooner or later !
Someone offered me an IT250G frame, forks, yolks, swinging arm etc, and I had an IT250G engine bottom end kicking around. A quick scratch around found a tank, lumpy seat, incorrect wheels, and some grotty sidepanels that might fit.
Looking for a cylinder, head, exhaust system, carb and airbox.
Clearly a long term project, but it is another Yamaha IT saved !

1976 YAMAHA IT400C
1980 YAMAHA IT175G
Another long term project !
Frame, swinging arm, some plastics, hub, spokes, spindles, crankcases, and a bucket full of nuts and bolts make up this purchase.
Not sure if I have enough parts to actually say I own an IT175G, but this time I won't be selling on the parts and then regretting it !

1981 IT125H
Do I need another long term project ? Yes, of course I do !
This bike may be the one I owned in 1981, a little investigation will be needed to confirm this.
Found for sale locally, this bike was bundled into the back of my car with much enthusiasm and will be returned to it's former glory in time. My thanks to the seller for his honest description and help looking for missing parts and photos.
